Months of work
Progress was real.
Daily training, medication, pain assessment, a veterinary behaviourist and six trainer sessions helped. Muffin learned to see a dog across the street, then redirect attention back to her owner.
For owners of reactive & anxious dogs
A rapid saliva test patch for reactive and anxious dogs. Compare today’s stress signal with their own calm baseline — so you know when to train, when to recover, and whether your work is helping over time.

01 — One walk, after months of work

Months of work
Daily training, medication, pain assessment, a veterinary behaviourist and six trainer sessions helped. Muffin learned to see a dog across the street, then redirect attention back to her owner.
One difficult day
After a vet visit that morning, a dog appeared from a blind spot at close range and barked first. Muffin lunged so hard that her collar broke, then attempted to bite.
Afterwards
Months of visible progress stopped feeling real. Her owner could not tell whether the training had been lost, or whether that walk had simply started further from Muffin’s usual baseline than any other walk that month.
Has my dog actually improved? Is there something I’m missing?
02 — What Muffin’s owner could not see
The other dog was the final trigger. Muffin had already carried the morning at the vet into the walk.
Notices, responds, moves on.
Vet, poor sleep, travel or change.
Yesterday’s distance may be too close.
The reaction looks sudden.
Was progress lost, or did today start differently?
What owners live with
“I’m finding it hard to feel like we’ve improved after the incident.”
“Now it’s like the threshold doesn’t even exist.”
“Constantly on edge about what might trigger her.”
Why the starting point matters
Below their threshold, a dog can still take food and direction. As stressors stack, that workable space can narrow — before the change becomes obvious in their behaviour.
That is why yesterday’s distance, route or training plan may not fit the dog in front of you today.
Under threshold
Good day to trainLoose body. Takes food. Training works here.
Approaching
Add distanceFixating, slower to respond. The window most owners miss.
Over threshold
Leave, don’t trainBarking, lunging or shut down. Nothing is being learned.
